There were boat races all weekend on the river, and our building makes a big deal out of them, with everyone coming down to the riverfront to BBQ, socialize, and pour tequila down the throats of new arrivals. Nobody watches the actual boat races.
The races are preceded all three days by an airplane stunt show by a local lady pilot and with a series of really loud and impressive stunts by Navy F-18's. They flew right between our building and the next building over. Having the sound barrier broken like 50 feet above your head is a really awesome way to start a weekend.
